Third party involved in exchange between D’Angelo Russell and Dejounte Murray

The Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks are in need of help in getting Dejounte Murray to the Lakers as soon as possible.

During an appearance on FanDuel TV, The Athletic’s Shams Charania said that the Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks have had open conversations about trading Dejounte Murray for the past few weeks, suggesting that the Los Angeles Lakers are running out of patience with D’Angelo Russell.

Charania added that the Atlanta Hawks are not interested in Russell, and are instead looking for another team to facilitate a trade. Charania said the reason for the delay is because Atlanta is looking for a third team to bring D’Angelo Russell to.

transfer rumors for the past few weeks, and the Atlanta Hawks have also secretly announced to teams that they want him out since last week. Dejounte Murray has talked to teams outside the Lakers such as the New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors and Brooklyn Nets. He also had a conversation with his former team San Antonio Spurs, the team that traded him to Atlanta at the beginning of the 2022-2023 season.

It’s no wonder so many teams are interested in the 27-year-old. In 42 games this season, Dejounte Murray averaged 21.1 points, 5.0 assists and 4.9 rebounds. His contract only runs through the 2026-2027 season, meaning the team that signs Murray can plan ahead to prepare for his presence in the lineup in the coming years.

Even though the Atlanta Hawks are in a difficult situation with their record of 18-24, ranking 10th in the East out of 15 teams, they still decided to trade Dejounte Murray, with the reason being that his position overlaps with star Trae Young.

The Atlanta Hawks are in the process of rebuilding their roster, extending contracts with key players and looking for players who fit the system the team is aiming for during the offseason, and a player like D’Angelo Russell is a potential option for the Atlanta Hawks to get through the upcoming 2024-2025 season.
