The SoFi Stadium team defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in the most watched sports match in America.
This is only the second time in history that a football team has played in the Super Bowl on its home field. The first time was last year, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won at Raymond James Stadium. History repeated itself, with the Rams winning in a dramatic final-minute victory.
“I’m so happy, I’ve been dreaming about this title for a long time and now it’s come true. This is the best feeling in the world. Thank God,” defensive tackle Aaron Donald said through tears. Donald ended the Bengals’ hopes with a pinpoint tackle on the final play of the game.
The Rams controlled the first half and part of the second. They quickly took the lead thanks to touchdowns from Odell Beckham Jr. and Cooper Kupp. The visitors responded with a touchdown run from Tee Higgins, before Jessie Bates III made a pinpoint interception in the end zone late in the second half.
The home team suffered a setback when key receiver Beckham left the field in the second quarter with a knee injury. The Bengals rallied in the third quarter, scoring 10 points on a Tee Higgins touchdown and Evan McPherson free throw. The Rams added just three points on a Matt Gay free throw.
The Bengals led the Rams 20-16 going into the final quarter. The two teams were tied, and the game was only decided in the final two minutes. After a long period of control, including 15 possessions, Kupp scored 7 points for the Rams with a touchdown, helping the home team take the lead 23-20. This gave Kupp his second touchdown of the game and was voted MVP of Super Bowl LVI. Two days earlier, Kupp had also received the individual award as the best offensive player of the NFL – American professional football league.

This victory helped the Rams forget the sadness of losing to the New England Patriots in the 2019 Super Bowl. Coach Sean McVay, 36 years old, also set a record as the youngest coach to ever attend the Super Bowl and win this noble title.
