The Korean volleyball team had a shocking victory over the French team. The Korean volleyball team and Bulgaria are considered the two weakest teams at the 2024 Volleyball Nations League (VNL). The results after 2 weeks of the VNL 2024 international women’s volleyball event have proven that.
After 9 matches, the volleyball team from the land of Kim Chi lost 8 and won only 1 (beat Thailand on May 19). But on June 13, the Korean team caused a stir when they defeated the French team, a team with a much higher ranking than them.
Set 1 showed the strength of the Korean team’s difficult serves, making it difficult for their opponents to receive the ball. Despite leading by 7 points, Korea let France turn the game around and had to work very hard to win.
After losing the opening set, the French women’s volleyball team focused more and quickly took control of the match. They won two consecutive sets, thereby taking the lead over their opponents.
Forced to win set 4, Korea played resiliently. The team showed tenacious defense and never gave up, eventually winning by a narrow margin.
Set 5 was a balanced performance between the two teams. Korea once again took advantage of difficult serves to rise up and win this important victory.
This 3-2 win (25-23, 21-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-13) helped Korea escape the last position on the VNL 2024 rankings. Korea ranked 15th with 6 points, and last place was Bulgaria with only 3 points after 10 matches (1 win, 9 losses).
More importantly, the victory over the team ranked in the top 20 helped Korea gain 8.67 more points. With a total of 106.88 points, Korea temporarily surpassed the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team (ranked 35th) to rank 34th on the world volleyball rankings. This means that the previous top 5 position in Asia of the Vietnamese women’s team now temporarily belongs to the team from Kim Chi.
Korea’s VNL 2024 journey continues, on the evening of June 14 they host the Italian team, then play the final match of week 3 on June 16 against the Netherlands.
