Basketball star Kyrie Irving ‘suspended’ for 5 NBA games for ‘shocking’ statement

The Brooklyn Nets professional basketball team has announced a “five-game unpaid suspension” for player Kyrie Irving in the 2022/23 NBA season.

Recently, the professional basketball club playing in the NBA – Brooklyn Nets decided to “suspend” star Kyrie Irving for 5 consecutive games without pay in the NBA 2022/23 for sharing and supporting anti-Semitism in a movie containing this content.

The Brooklyn Nets affirmed that they do not discriminate against race or have any anti-Semitic ideology. The coaching staff worked with Kyrie Irving and the entire team to clearly analyze the positive and negative aspects of actions and statements that are not in accordance with community standards.

Kyrie Irving will be suspended for 5 games without pay, the penalty may be increased if this behavior continues.

In addition, the Brooklyn Nets and Kyrie Irving will donate $1,000,000 to organizations and activities to eliminate hate – ADL (Ans Defemattion League), a non-profit organization that prevents anti-Semitism or in other words, against those who defame Jews.

Of course, each person has his own thoughts and decisions, so the conversation with Kyrie Irving failed. Therefore, the Brooklyn Nets imposed a harsh penalty to teach Kyrie Irving a valuable lesson. In particular, this is only a temporary penalty and if the above situation continues, the consequences will certainly be more serious.

The consequences of the statement have seriously affected Kyrie Irving’s career.

Full statement from the Brooklyn Nets

“Over the past few days, we have made numerous efforts to work with Kyrie Irving to help him understand the harmful and dangerous effects of his words and actions, which began with his release of a film containing deeply disturbing hate speech about Jews.

We believe that taking the educational path in these challenging times is the right thing to do and think the team has made strides with a shared commitment to eliminating hatred and intolerance.

Today, we were disappointed when Kyrie categorically refused to say that he does not hold anti-Semitic beliefs, nor acknowledge specific hateful material in the film when given the opportunity to explain the situation to the media. This is not the first time Kyrie has had the opportunity and failed.

His failure to denounce anti-Semitism when clearly presented is troubling, goes against the values of our organization, and constitutes conduct detrimental to the team. Accordingly, we have determined that he is currently unfit to be associated with the Brooklyn Nets.

We have determined that Kyrie will be suspended without pay until he meets a set of objective measures to address the harmful impact of his conduct and the suspension will be for no less than five games.”
